About Om Katare
Om Katare founded Yatri - a theatre group, in 1979 to provide wholesome and meaningful entertainment to the theatre audience. Om, a renowned theatre personality, is a Diploma holder from Filmalaya Academy, Mumbai.

At a time when Hindi theatre was passing through a difficult phase, Yatri surprised theatre audiences by coming up with an ingenious mix of comedies, social commentaries, satires, classics etc.

Hailing from a small town called Datia in Madhya Pradesh, Om Katare came up with a group dedicated to the cause of Hindi theatre. The initial years were a struggle. With no funds or sponsors, Om Katare went on to produce and direct his first play 'Ek Tha Gadha' in 1979. It was Yatri's good fortune to have got encouragement from the late Jennifer Kapoor and Dharamsey Merchant (the manager of Prithvi Theatre at that time).

Om Katare's vision is to provide wholesome and meaningful entertainment to the common man was realized when Mr. R. Mohan, the then proprietor of Good Knight offered to sponsor Yatri's plays for a period of 5 years from 1987 to 1991. Thereafter there was no looking back. Yatri has grown from strength to strength and has so far produced more than 55 productions and has over 4400 performances to its credit both in India and abroad.
